Learn the Answer and To Many More Frequently Asked Questions about Text Message Marketing
What is text message marketing?
Text messaging between individuals has been around for quite some time. Recently businesses of all sorts have ‘discovered’ how effective texting special offers to their customers’ mobile phone can be. By contacting their customers with specific offers that they have said they would be interested in, the business is making sales and building loyalty.
What is SMS?
SMS stands for Short Message Service. Basically, a fancy way of saying “Text Message”. A text message is short and to the point. That’s why customers read them and respond to your call to action.
How does Text Message Marketing work?
First, your customer sees or hears your invitation. For example, you could advertise “text OFFER to 555-5555 to receive mobile alerts, special offers and coupons from us.” Print this call-to-action on flyers, menus, posters, table tents and postcards – any direst mail piece. Post the notice on your website, Facebook page, Twitter page and encourage your email list to switch to text message…they are more direct and shorter. Include it in your radio and TV advertising and create excitement with shout outs at live events. Give your customers every available media avenue to opt-in. Make your message enticing and it will go viral!
Next, your customer scans the QR code or texts the keyword to your exclusive number. Automatically they receive your personalized thank you message. Smart marketers will include an immediate call-to-action. Engage them. They have now opted-in. Now you can send marketing text messages to their mobile phone.
Once the word is out, it is almost guaranteed that in short order you will have a targeted, well qualified list of customers that have said they want to hear from you. Now you can send them regular messages with special offers building their loyalty to your products and services…and putting more dollars in your pocket!
…And your customers are more likely to tell their friends about all the great deals you send via text, creating a viral campaign. They show up at your place of business, show your text marketing message and receive your incentive deal…Result — Happy customers spending more money.
What is a QR code?
A QR code (Quick Response Code) is a 2D code that can communicate thousands of characters through the built-in camera and scanning capabilities of most mobile devices like Smartphones and tablets. It’s similar to a bar code, but has way more cool applications. It looks like a crossword puzzle on steroids. Go ahead and scan this with your Smartphone to see how Club Lemeno Text Message Marketing works.
What is a keyword?
Text deal to (858) 375-1722
Keywords are the KEY to a successful Text Message Marketing campaign. They are unique, attention grabbing words that entice your audience to text to your exclusive long code number (explained below). – like “Text the keyword deal to (858) 375-1722 to get today’s special offer”. This method takes a little more effort but customers who can’t scan a QR code will still be able to opt-in to your list. Club Lemeno offers you unlimited keywords which then automatically generate a companion QR code. (see above) Club Lemeno can work with you to develop a marketing plan with keywords that are unique to your business and recognizable to your customers.
How do I get a QR Code?
Club Lemeno customers have access to our free QR code generator. It generates a QR code for each keyword automatically. Remember with our unlimited keyword feature you get unlimited QR codes, too.
How do small businesses use QR Codes?
A QR code can be placed just about anywhere – on business cards, receipts, table tents programs, a poster, flyer, in a magazine, on a t-shirt, on a menu…even a giant electronic screen. Someone once put a QR code on a cake – in the frosting – and it actually worked. For your convenience, Club Lemeno formats the QR code in 20 different sizes which are easily accessed by your graphic artist or printer.
What is the URL shortener and what does it do?
Club Lemeno’s URL shortener allows you to include a link to your website or specific landing page without using up to many text characters. A long URL is shortened to 19 or 20 characters. You simply copy and paste your long URL into the box, then insert the shortened URL into your message all with a click of a button. Your customer clicks the link and is taken directly to your website. Simple as that. BTW, at that point they are off the Club Lemeno system and are in your ticket purchasing, PayPal or other account. Club Lemeno will have no knowledge or record of their purchase.

How are customers enticed to respond?
First, your customers see your advertisement and scan your QR code or enter your keyword because they want to hear from you. Your job is to make your response worthwhile to both them and you. A simple text coupon of 160 characters or less can do the trick. Customers just show it when they come in to receive the special offer. Using the Club Lemeno URL shortener (see below) customers can link directly to your website or a specific landing page to purchase tickets or a product, make a reservation or get more information. That’s right! They can buy stuff right from their phone! It is also very easy, by asking your customer their preferences to segment them into groups. Do they like rock n’ roll or jazz? Pizza or drink specials?
What does opt-in mean?
In the context of text message marketing, a user “opts-in” by either scanning your QR code or texting your keyword to your exclusive long code number, and in-so-doing has agreed to be placed on your text message list. Your immediate response message confirms and thanks them with a call-to-action. At this point you can ask them their preference by entering another keyword thus segmenting your list by interest groups. Club Lemeno is an opt-in only system. Users must respond directly to a specific business’s promotion. Lists obtained from an outside or third source are not allowed on the Club Lemeno system.
What does opt-out mean?
A user can “opt-out” when they no longer wish to receive text messages from you. When someone texts STOP their number is automatically removed from your list. With the Club Lemeno system you can compose your own confirmation message and give them the keyword to send should they want to receive special offers from you in the future.
What is the difference between a shared short code and a long code?
Both long and short codes are used in text message marketing. A short code is comprised of 5 or 6 digits; a long code is the same as a 10 digit phone number. Because of their expense and set up conditions, short codes are being supplanted by long codes, especially by small to medium size businesses. Below is a list of Pros and Cons for both Long and Short codes.
What is narrowcasting?
With text message marketing you are able to target market your customers better than ever before. By using keywords to segment your patrons by interest groups you can send them information they are genuinely interested in and special offers that will actually draw them into your store. The term for this is “narrowcasting”. With narrowcasting your response rate is generally much higher than with a message sent using the general media approach of broadcasting.
How long does it take to build an email list?
How long does it take to develop a good size list? It depends on how aggressive you are and what vehicles you use to get your QR code and keywords in front of your customers (both current and future).
(But warning – we absolutely DO NOT allow any mass lists from third parties to be loaded onto our system. This is a big NO-NO! If you do we will immediately shut down your service and it could end up costing your loads of money! This is no joke!)
Integrate your call to action to join your VIP text club in all of your adverting and promotion efforts. Offer great specials and the word will spread and go viral. You will be amazed at how quickly your list can grow. Generally speaking, if you are serious about text message marketing you should be able to send out messages within a couple of weeks and have a list of a couple hundred good customers within a couple of months.
